Ashton Baumann Sets Ontario Record at Junior International Swim Meet

Ontario swimming history was made today at the Paul Bergen Junior International Swim meet, held in Tualatin Hills, Oregon.

Ashton Baumann of the Greater Ottawa Kingfish Swim Club set a new provincial record in the boys 15-17 yrs 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:11.23. The previous Ontario record was held by the late Victor Davis, who set this record in 1982. Victor went on to win gold at the 1984 Olympics in the 200m breaststroke and silver in the 100m. Victor's teammate was double Olympic Gold medalist Alex Baumann, Ashton's father. Ashton missed the Canadian National record for 15-17 yr boys by only .01 seconds.

Congratulations to Ashton and his family. Great job by everyone making this possible.
